FAQs
Selecting a new dentist is an important decision, and naturally you may have a few questions for us before you make your choice. Here are a few commonly asked questions that patients nearby ask us when inquiring about care. If you don’t see yours listed below, please don’t hesitate to contact our friendly team, and we’ll get you an answer as quickly as possible.
How do I get emergency dental care?
When you need emergency dental care, every minute counts. Your first step should always be to call us directly and let someone on our staff help you over the phone. If you are experiencing a life-threatening emergency, please call 911 immediately.
Most hospital emergency rooms, mobile clinics, and urgent care centers aren’t equipped to handle dental emergencies, and thus if you go there, you are unlikely to receive treatment.
In most cases, we can accommodate you for a same-day appointment, but please call us first so we can better understand the situation.
Remember, a dental emergency is often an indicator of bigger dental problems, and an important sign that it’s time to get back in the habit of regular dental exam and cleaning appointments. Routine check-ups can help prevent future dental emergencies, which can in turn save you time, money, and your natural teeth!
How much does a dental check-up & cleaning cost in Falmouth?
The cost of a dental check-up and cleaning can vary depending on a variety of factors, including your location and your individual oral health.
At Falmouth Dentistry, your check-up and cleaning appointment starts with a patient health history and discussion of any oral health concerns you may have. It also includes a thorough examination by your dentist, a professional cleaning, X-rays, and an oral cancer screening.
The average cost for a check-up and cleaning in markets across the United States is between $200 and $350. If you have dental insurance, any fees (including any co-pays) are negotiated with us by your insurance company.
How many dentists are there in Falmouth?
According to Delta Dental, there are over 50 dentists in Falmouth, ME. At Falmouth Dentistry, we have two skilled and caring dentists, Dr. Chadbourne and Dr. Campbell. Both are proud Maine natives and are thrilled to have been improving smiles in the Falmouth community for decades.
What is the best way to find a cosmetic dentist?
While there’s no single designation that qualifies a dentist to be a cosmetic dentist, there are many professional organizations that offer advanced training on cosmetic dentistry procedures.
Dr. Chadbourne is skilled in a variety of dental treatments and has even served as an adjunct faculty member for Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, Arizona School of Dental and Oral Health, and the University of New York at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine.
Dr. Campbell has extensive training in prosthodontics, including additional studies in advanced treatments.
What level of education is required to be a dentist?
All dentists here in the United States must have earned either a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or a Doctor of Dental Sciences (DDS) from one of the nation’s 67 accredited dental schools.
Acceptance into dental school requires the student to have earned a bachelor's degree (and very high grades) in a major that is heavy in both math and science.
Dental school is an additional three years that combines classroom and hands-on education.
Following their initial three-years, some dentists choose to continue their education by earning one of twelve specializations recognized by the American Dental Association (ADA). These all require an additional three or more years of dental school training.
After graduation, all dentists must complete a certain number of continuing education hours to keep their license active. In Maine, that number is 40 hours every two years. Dentists must also have a current CPR certification, and some continuing education hours must be focused on substance use disorders and pain management.
